Laura Woodson is one of the popular girls in college, she's socially very active and owns over 800 friends on Facebook.
She lives together with her three friends - Olivia, Isabel and Gustavo, but is also close with Kobe and dates Tyler McCormick.
Posting about her every day life on social media, one day Laura gets a friend request from a girl named Marina, who seems to be the lonely girl, who's Facebook page is filled with disturbing images. Laura feels sorry for Marina for not having any friends and decides to get to know her a little her, even though her friends make fun of her and Marina's friendship. Laura starts having nightmares about gruesome pictures Marina has shared on her timeline. Marina's harassing behavior starts to make Laura feel uncomfortable, situation between two new friends spins out of control when Marina is not invited to Laura's birthday party, Marina confronts her at school and makes a big scene in front of all her classmates. Laura is shocked and feeling beyond uncomfortable and decides to unfriend Marina on Facebook. The outcast girl's feelings are hurt and she is angry. The next morning when the whole class is together, college professor brings youths a bad news - their
shared classmate Marina has committed suicide. Laura gets a freaky feeling when Marina posts a video on her Facebook wall, where Marina burns a picture of Laura and then hangs herself from the ceiling rope. Laura is trying to figure out what happened and why, but instead of making sense of the happenings, Laura's friends get killed one by one by Marina's spirit to make her feel lonely like she did when she was alive. After every friend is killed, Laura receives a video of how they were killed on her Facebook timeline. Losing enough friends as it is, her friend list is growing smaller every day. Pressure grows when she has a fight with Olivia, telling her to delete the profile, Laura also gets suspended from the college for the semester, even though she swears she hasn't posted the killing videos. Though Tyler doesn't like Laura hanging out
with Kobe, they start investigating Marina's past. When Isabel slits her throat in the hospital and video of her doing is again on Laura's timeline, all the living friends Laura, Olivia, Tyler and Kobe try to delete Marina and each other from their friend list's, an error occurs. While Tyler risks his job to get information about Marina Nedifar, Kobe realizes the secret of the killings, he reads a ritual page and realizes Marina didn't kill herself, but performed a ritual. They understand Marina's black mirror was her laptop, Laura and Kobe plan to destroy it to save themselves from horrific death. Laura and Kobe's investigation takes them to a basement, where they find a black mirror. Kobe is hypnotized by the mirror and stabs Laura in the stomach. When Laura sees through a video call that her mother is going to kill herself, she loses hope of ever winning against Marina's ritual. Kobe dead, Laura finally feels herself alone without her friends and closed ones and understands all Marina wanted, is to be friends, best friends.
