Jessabelle (2014)

Jessabelle 'Jessie' Laurent is going to move to her fiance, Mark's house when they're hit by a truck, in relation to the accident Mark died and Jessie has a miscarriage. Two months later stuck in wheelchair, Jessie moves in with her estranged father, Leon in St. Francis, Lousiana. Jessie's mother died after she was born due to brain tumor. After settling in her dead mother's room, she finds a box full of her mother's things, including tapes from the time her mother was pregnant with Jessabelle. Kate is reading her tarot cards about death and warns her of presence of somebody in the house, who doesn't want her there. After seeing a tape Leon ripped apart, Jessie starts having nightmares about black haired woman and voodoo. After Leon leaves, Rosaura arrives, Jessie's caretaker, who helps her out of wheelchair to get a bath. Leon finds her in the bathroom, freaked out of her mind, lying on the floor while bath is filled with water. He calms her down and finds she has been watching Kate's tapes again, Leon takes the tapes and tries to lit them on fire, but ends up being
in fire. He breaks the window and tries to get out, but can't and Jessie can't do anything but watch her father turn into ashes. At the funeral Jessie reconnects with her old high school friend, Preston Sanders, but faints after she sees a
figure of burned man. After a night when Preston stays with Jessie, they go to local diner and catch up, she confesses the truth about the tapes and nightmares. They watch shortly one tape of Kate Jessie has already seen and advices her to not watch them anymore, to get rid of the nightmares. Jessabelle is trying to have a quiet evening on her own, but the tapes keep haunting her, so she puts a tape in and sees how Leon and Kate are celebrating christmas. She feels happiness for a while, but only until she enters another tape, where she sees tarot cards and her mother crying, implying that her daughter is already dead. After that, television shatters into pieces. Jessie gets scared and tries to reach Preston, but a woman answers and as soon as she says her name, call is disconnected. She starts seeing a black woman figure again as she sits in front of a mirror, it shatteres and another tape appears. Preston and Jessie take a boat and head out to the bayou, they find something that freaks Jessie out - a doll and grave with her name and birthday. They head out to the bayou once more in the darkness, do some digging and find a skull. Police promises to take samples from it and test it. Jessie is scared and horrified enough for that night and spends the night with Preson and his wife, Sam. Preston and Jessie pack her things to get her set on leaving the house, but as Preston sits in the car, he sees supernatural woman figure attacks him. He ends up in the hospital and Jessie is left at the house alone again. Jessbelle tries to get in contact when the female spirit, who's in the house to help her. Sheriff calls Jessabelle at the house to share some new information about DNA results and Preston's condition. Jessie watches the last tape of Kate, where the baby is crying and Kate shoots her brains out, the television goes blank. Ghost of her mother appears and everything makes sense to Jessie now - the black baby Kate was talking about in tapes wasn't her, but Kate's other daughter, who's father wasn't Leon. Jessabel realizes Leon killed the black baby, that's why the evil spirit of black's baby is haunting in the house, claiming it's hers. Leon covered up the baby kill by adopting a baby, white baby, Jessie. Preson comes around the house and sees how Jessie is pulling the wheelchair towards water. She pushes herself into the water and stays there for some moments until Preston
jumps in the water and saves her life. Black young woman appears in the water, takes Jessabelle's hand bracelet, puts it on her hand, kisses her on the forehead and takes her human body.
