After a fatal car accident, American couple Shannon and Steven can't get any children of their own. After deciding for adoption, they want to give home to Haitian orphan girl Nina through Internation Rescue Adoption, a company that is run by Gabrielle Reigert. After paying 60 000 dollars, Shannon and Steven move to resort to wait for Nina's United States passport to arrive. Shannon, Steven and Nina head to the beach, on the way they meet Benjamin, who is turns out to be their neighbor. A new family spends quality family time, they get to know Nina and everything seems great. Steven leaves Shannon and Nina sleeping and goes for a walk, he ends up taking a few drinks in a bar, where their neighbor  Benjamin and his friends, Salo and Paola. When Steven refuses to have one drinks with them, Salo takes it personally, throws Steven a few punches and sheds a beer on him. Steven is taken to the police station, Shannon arrives with Nina there, being angry with Steven. He explains himself and apolgizes to both of them. A friendly police man gives them his number. The next morning when Shannon gets a good idea to make pancakes for breakfast, she realizes Nina is gone. They're looking through the whole apartment, but there's no sign of her, which makes them call the police man, who they met last night. When Steven tries to show police Nina's picture, the website doesn't exist. He visits the office where they met with Reigert, he finds an empty office. Shannon visits the police station, where she was called to come since police had some new information. Superintendent lets her know that the adoption was a scam called reclaiming. Shannon's patience is put to test when Steven reveals that Reigert sent him an e-mail, letting him know that the process couldn't be complete. She promised that cancellation could be fixed if Steven paid him more, so he paid 30 000 dollars more. Paola shows up at couple's hotel room and promises she knows where Nina is and claims Benjamin has taken her. Salo and Benjamin pull a guns on their heads and drive them to a house. Benjamin has a doubt that Reigert is giving him less money than she herself gets out of the scams. Steven goes to bank with a bag full of money to make the transfer, companied by Salo. At the same time Shannon frees herself and plans to make an escape. Leaving from the bank, Steven tries to escape by running away, Salo chases him fastly through the city streets. Steven gets into a cab and calls the police station, gives them Shannon's location in hope police can get there in right amount of time. Salo and Benjamin are still in the city when Paola, Steven and Shannon are out of the city in Nina's holding place. Paola pulls a gun on Steven, who promises to pay her more than Benjamin and Salo do. Steven gets a chance to grab Paola's gun, they take Nina and drive out of there. On the way they meet Benjamin, who's starting to chase them with his car. On the way Salo appears with his car, but crashes with another car, Benjamin keeps chasing the couple and Nina. Benjamin tries to get their car out of the road and the car stops on the cliff. Steven takes Nina out of the car and saves Shannon also from a horrible death. After a  while police arrives on the scene. Superintendent takes Shannon, Steven and Nina to his car and drives them back into the city. While driving, he gets shot by Benjamin. Steven is left as a prison in the trunk, Shannon, Nina and Angie, who performed as Reigert are taken into the house. Benjamin and Angie starting to fight over the big sum of money, he can't take of her greediness anymore and shoots her. Benjamin is about to kill to Shannon when Steven shots him. Nina takes the gun from the ground and starts pointing Benjamin's dead body, then Shannon and Steven. The both persuade Nina
to put the gun back to the ground. A couple promises her a loving home and good taken care of. Nina believes them and puts the gun down.
